Where to Play Pickleball in Youngstown

Jewish Community Center of Youngstown

505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown, OH 44504. The JCC has four indoor courts plus four outdoor courts between the main building and Heritage Manor. Indoor open play runs Monday 5:00-7:30 p.m. for players rated 3.0 and above, Wednesday 9:00-11:00 a.m. for all levels, Thursday 5:00-7:30 p.m. for all levels, and Saturday 9:00 a.m.-noon for all levels. Outdoor players organize through TeamReach using code Y-TownPickleball.

Pickleball is included with JCC membership. A first-time visitor can buy three visits for $15; ongoing passes cost $70 for 10 visits or $100 for 20. The JCC pickleball program also offers clinics, leagues, shootouts, and instruction.

Volney Rogers Field

816 Glenwood Avenue, Youngstown, OH 44502. Mill Creek MetroParks added two pickleball courts to the resurfaced tennis complex. These shared-use outdoor courts are free, first come, first served, and open year-round from sunrise to sunset. The facility also has a lower parking lot and improved paved access to the courts.

Yellow Creek Park

17 Lowellville Road, Struthers, OH 44471. This MetroParks facility southeast of Youngstown also has pickleball striping on its tennis courts. Play is free and first come, first served from sunrise to sunset throughout the year. It is a useful alternative for players coming from Struthers, Campbell, or the southeastern side of the metro area.

Boardman Township Park

375 Boardman Poland Road, Boardman, OH 44512. The park's outdoor tennis/pickleball courts are open daily from 7:00 a.m. to dusk and generally operate first come, first served. Parking, picnic areas, trails, and playgrounds are onsite, making Boardman a practical choice for a casual group south of the city.

Pickleball Lessons in Youngstown

The JCC sells one-hour private lessons for $30 to members and $40 to nonmembers. Five private sessions cost $120/$160, and ten cost $212/$280. Semi-private instruction for two to four players costs $12 per member or $15 per nonmember for a single session. Adult and youth instruction are both available.

The JCC's weekly open-play blocks form the center of organized local play, with a dedicated Monday group for 3.0-plus competitors and all-level sessions Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The center also runs leagues and shootouts, so players can move from open games into scored competition without changing venues.

Youngstown Pickle Palooza is the area's established indoor tournament format, played on temporary courts with portable nets. Regional competitors also have late-summer events nearby, including the Buhl Park Shootouts in Hermitage, Pennsylvania. The JCC's TeamReach group is the most direct local connection for partner searches and newly announced Youngstown sessions.

What Visiting Players Should Know

The JCC's three-visit, $15 introductory pass is the best value for a short stay and removes the uncertainty of arriving at an empty public court. Bring a paddle and balls for open play; the indoor schedule clearly separates Monday's 3.0-plus games from the all-level Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday blocks.

For free outdoor play near downtown, use Volney Rogers Field during daylight. Boardman Park has easier access for visitors staying near the US 224 retail corridor, while Yellow Creek Park serves the southeast side. None of the MetroParks courts require a reservation, so a planned foursome should bring its own net only if the posted court setup does not already have one in place.
